Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey for a leaner option
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • ½ bell pepper diced (optional but adds great flavor)
  • ½ cup ketchup or tomato sauce for a less sweet version
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder optional for a little kick
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns toasted for extra crunch

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain any excess grease.
  • Stir in the chopped onions and bell peppers. Cook for about 3–4 minutes until they soften.
  • Add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  • Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10–15 minutes until thickened. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  • Spoon the mixture onto toasted hamburger buns and serve hot.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add a splash of BBQ sauce or a dash of apple cider vinegar for a tangy twist. Sloppy Joes taste even better the next day—store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
