Instructions
In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Mix until just combined, don’t overwork the meat. Shape the mixture into four equal-sized patties and slightly flatten them.
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add a little butter or oil.
Place the patties in the skillet and sear for 4-5 minutes per side until browned. Remove the patties from the pan and set aside.
In the same skillet, melt the butter and add sliced onions. Sauté until soft and caramelized.
Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
Gradually whisk in the beef broth, ensuring there are no lumps. Add soy sauce and thyme, then simmer for 5 minutes until the gravy thickens.
Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, coating them with the gravy. Reduce the heat and let everything simmer for 5 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or steamed vegetables.
Notes
For extra gravy, double the beef broth and seasonings. For a keto-friendly version, replace breadcrumbs with almond flour.
