Ingredients
Cake Batter
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt

- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk or whole milk

- Brown food coloring for buttercream or fondant
- White gel icing for football laces

Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk, until smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly between the pans and bake for 25-30 minutes. Let the cakes cool completely.
- Mix buttercream frosting with brown food coloring until it reaches the desired shade.
- For a football shape, carve a sheet cake into an oval shape using a serrated knife.
- Frost the cake with the brown buttercream, creating a smooth finish.
- Use white gel icing to draw football laces on top of the cake.
- For extra detail, add green frosting to the base to resemble a football field.
- Chill for 30 minutes before serving for best results.
Notes
For a 3D football cake, bake in an oval cake pan or carve two round cakes and stack them for a more dimensional effect. Use textured mats to add a leather-like football finish.
