Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Serving Dish
  • Refrigerator

Ingredients

For the Banana Pudding

  • 3 large ripe bananas sliced
  • 1 box vanilla wafers about 11 ounces
  • 1 package vanilla pudding mix instant or homemade
  • 2 cups whole milk or almond milk for a dairy-free option
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk 14 ounces
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream or pre-made whipped cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract for enhanced flavor
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch if making homemade custard

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the vanilla pudding mix, milk, and sweetened condensed milk until thickened. If making homemade custard, cook milk, egg yolks, sugar, vanilla, and cornstarch over medium heat until thick.
  • Slice the bananas evenly and lightly coat with lemon juice to prevent browning.
  • In a large serving dish, layer vanilla wafers at the bottom, followed by a layer of sliced bananas, then a layer of pudding.
  • Repeat the layering process until all ingredients are used, ensuring the final layer is pudding.
  • In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form, then spread evenly over the top layer.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (or overnight) to allow flavors to meld and wafers to soften.
  • Before serving, garnish with additional banana slices and crushed vanilla wafers for texture.

Notes

For a fun variation, try using chocolate wafers or adding a layer of caramel for extra sweetness!
