Ingredients
  

Cake Batter

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup milk

Buttercream Frosting

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Optional Decorations

  • red food coloring for pink frosting
  • heart sprinkles for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a heart-shaped cake pan.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Mix in vanilla extract. Gradually add dry ingredients, alternating with milk, until fully combined.
  • Pour batter into the prepared heart-shaped pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting.
  • For the frosting, beat butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and mix well.
  • Add milk and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth and fluffy. Add food coloring if desired.
  • Spread frosting evenly over the cake and decorate with heart sprinkles.

Notes

For a chocolate heart cake, add ½ cup of cocoa powder to the dry ingredients and increase sugar slightly.
